First time sitting in the cart

I am so proud (and grateful) of my little boy. He is so good at sitting up now, I let him try out his new skills in the grocery cart. It was a win-win for both of us. I can't believe how good this kid is (almost all the time). I bet everyone wishes they had a Pedro.

Colorful Plastic Spoons - thanks Dani & JR

My poor little guy has a cold. He is pretty brave, but I can tell it's no fun for him 'cause he isn't usually this irritable. Everything I tried to do to help him be happy lasted for about 2 minutes. Then, when I pulled out the bright colored measuring spoons you sent for Christmas, a big grin broke across his sad little face. They rattle and bump and make lots of loud noise and he LOVES it!

OH, and he is officially crawling, not inch-worming anymore, well, not as much. Now, he has discovered how to coordinate the movements of his hands and knees.

My ABSOLUTE Favorite Whole Wheat Waffles

I was about to give these waffles a fabulous introduction and glowing recommendation, but their yummy healthy goodness speaks for its self. ENJOY!

Blender Wheat Waffles

1 cup whole wheat kernals
1 1/4 cup milk

1 egg
1/3 cup oil
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder

In a blender, blend wheat kernals and milk on high for 3 - 5 minutes.

Add other ingredients and blend 1 - 2 minutes.

Cook on waffle iron.

Note: Sometimes I add a little (very little) pancake mix to fluffen them up a bit for Pedro.

Our little P.T. Cruiser gagging on carrots

Why are you laughing, Mom? There is nothing funny about these nasty carrots.Papi, you try it.
Uh, Mom, didn't I make myself clear the first time?
Papi, don't come near me with that spoon.
Fine. I'll keep eating it now, but just wait 'till you see my diapers later.

As much he hates his carrots, our little PT Cruiser loves his new-found freedom in squirm-worm-crawling. He pushes up on his hands and knees, falls forward and repeats the process, moving like an inch worm, until he gets what he wants. What a handsome fellow!
I just love this face!
And, this one.

A Warm Fuzzy Song

Carrie Underwood Temporary Home

old enough

I'm finally old enough to know what I want and sometimes I do it. On my birthday, I did it twice.

I got a free chicken tomato spinach alfredo Papa John's pizza when they were late on my order. So, even though it took 2 hours to get my pizza, it gave my friend Allison time to come over and share it with me.

Pedro surprised me on my birthday by coming home early from studying to take me out to dinner. (Aren't husbands great!) Part of me wanted the ideal "nice restaurant experience," since we don't get to do that very often. But, part of me really wanted the perfect spinach salad with not-in-season berries - and lots of them. Since it was unlikely I would find the perfect salad at a nice restaurant and it was very likely that a tired baby could ruin the "nice restaurant experience," I directed my wonderful man to the grocery store.

I love good fruit, but I rarely buy it because it is so expensive. But, it was my birthday. We bought blueberries, raspberries and blackberries for the salad. The spree continued with watermelon, nectarines, black grapes and bananas. I LOVED my salad. And, I loved that I had enough berries to snack on the next day and have another great salad two days later.

Oh, and we got peach frozen yogurt and Samoas Girl Scouts icecream, which I am enjoying right now while Pedro is at church basketball (see next post).

Church Basketball

I have a love-hate relationship with mens' 9 - 11 p.m. church basketball games.

I won't go into details, but I'm sure other wives understand.

Birthdays, Parents, and how I know God is our father

What is a birthday? A day in which we commemorate a new life in this world and celebrate continued life.

I've had my share of birthdays and have come to expect the tradition of everyone celebrating me. Which I can't say I don't like. But, really, it should be a day to honor my mother and father for the sacrifices they made in giving me life and keeping me alive. Yet, on this day for so many years when I should have been honoring them, they made it about me. They gave me gifts, made me yummy dinners and took me fun places.

From a self-centered perspective, one might wonder why anyone would want to be a parent. It seems like it's all about sacrifice, about giving, not getting. But, that is where the miracle happens. In a way, it's like that chemistry solution back in high school where somehow by combining two liquids you get a solid substance. In the combination of sacrifice and love, you get a solid substance of joy. Then God throws in more joy and love (and energy) just for trying the experiment.

God loves us! He is our Father! He knows the pure love and joy that come from being a good parent. I am so grateful He has let me try out this amazing parenting experiment. And, I am so grateful my parents decided to try it out about 27 years ago.

Thank you Mom and Dad!
Thank you Heavenly Father!

Happy Love Day!

I am so in love with my eternal sweetheart! He means more than the world to me. The brillant scarlet roses he gave me are just catching the light of the morning sun. They pale in comparison to the love he gives me every day. That love is the glue that keeps these two imperfect people so happy just to be together. What a beautiful life!

This is the cookie I decorated for Pedro.

This is the cookie Pedro decoated for me.Here are more cookies I made for Pedro. Guess which one was his favorite.
This is one of the flowers Pedro gave me.

homemade BBQ chicken pizza is really yummy

and that's about all I have to say.

Okay, I'll just add that Lloyds helped a little with the BBQ chicken and the bread machine helped a little with the dough, but I did the sticky part of putting it together in the right layers and baking it. Hmm. Okay, so the oven helped a little with the baking, but I . . .

. . . I got to play with my boy, instead of playing with chicken. Lucky me.

I love modern kitchen appliances!

ps. I love my new toy - an immersion blender with a chopper attachment. Making soups, bread crumbs and graham cracker crusts was never so easy.
